Hawaii is a beautiful place. Each island has a special quality that brings visitors back year after year. On Maui many visitor's take the time to see Hana. To get to Hana a visitor can drive or fly. To see Hana a visitor can go with a tour company, helicopter company or choose to drive themselves. Excluding the helicopter, the journey is by a scenic, winding road. Furthermore, this drive is approximately 2.5-3.0 hours one way, so expect to make it a day long adventure.

Personally, I lived on Maui for over six years and would continuously hear tourist complain about the Hana experience. Usually, the traveler was disappointed once they arrived at the Hana destination of The Seven Sacred Pools.

So what is the secret to enjoying Hana?

I believe the biggest problem is after driving for over two hours on Maui's beautiful coast line, Hana is perceived has a let-down. Not because Hana is not beautiful, but the look and feel is similar to the drive. Comparatively, is like to watching a forth of July fireworks show, after two hours the sky rockets would not be as climatic as when the show started. Keep this in mind and enjoy the drive! Understand that the drive will be long. Also, pack a snack and stop half way for a break from the drive.

Hana is worth the visit, but keep it in perspective. Remember to enjoy the journey along Maui's coast. The cliffs are spectacular with incredible ocean view. Also, black sand beach if close to Hana and might be worth a look around.
