The reasons for the Humpback's immense popularity vary according to who is asked. Some say it is the round, dark, black eyes that look at you with compassion and knowing. While others credit the Humpback Whales popularity for the spectacular breeches that send the whale out of the warm pacific as their body twists and arches in a inspirational display of motion. However, no matter the reason, seeing the Humpback Whales has been described as nothing short of "spiritual".

With all its history, grace and size, it is no wonder why some have given the highest accolades to the Humpback Whale. In short, many people said, "...these gentile giants hold a tight grip on my memory with images and feelings that have lasted over many the years." For both tourist and resident, the experience of watching the whales is described as, "time spent in awe and wonder” to the extent of “...the rare feeling of being completely content for days after.” Specifically, for the visitor, it is a vacation that not only changed them for a moment, but forever."

Although the experience varies for everyone, if you ever get the chance to visit the Humpback Whales, rest assured that Maui is a perfect host. In regard to whale watching activities there are many options available depending on the individual. For anyone wanting a close view, whale watching can be done from sail boats, motor boats and catamarans. Alternatively, viewing the whales can also be enjoyed from the coast of Maui. Many people choose to soak up the Hawaiian sunshine along one of Maui's beautiful beaches, as they peer out over the ocean watching the whales tail slap and breech in every direction. Also, when staying at Gail's Maui Condo, the lanai has an incredible view of the pacific ocean where whales can be seen traveling the channel between the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai.

Top Pick For Maui Restaurants

Gail and Stan have a few food secrets on Maui

Food is big on Maui. Restaurants are everywhere with too little time to explore and taste them all. However, over the years Gail and Stan have sampled many of the famous, and not so famous, restaurants -here is a review of a restaurant call The Gazebo.

  1. The Gazebo - The Gazebo sits near a swimming pool overlooking Napil Bay at a small condo complex. The restaurant serves great food in an outdoor environment with a wonderful view of the ocean. It is small and busy so be prepared for a wait. However, the service is good and should not take too long before you are seated. The Gazebo serves breakfast and lunch. For breakfast Gail and Stan enjoy the macadamia pancakes and they have some great fried rice. Also, for lunch make sure to try either a hamburger or salad.
These are a few items Gail and Stan have enjoyed, but all the food is good and worth the 20 minute drive from The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach.

Walk or Jog Kaanapali Beach

A morning walk or jog through Kaanapali Beach, Maui

Over the years, Gail and Stan have set out in the morning Maui sunshine for a walk or jog around Kaanapali. There are a number of variations to their loop, but the route they most often take is about three miles. Gail said it takes her about an hour saying, "it just depends on the morning, sometimes I walk or jog longer ...but whatever the distance, route or time I choose, it is a beautiful loop that I have enjoyed for years."

The walk starts on the beach footpath, in front of The Whaler's swimming pool, continues toward the Maui Sheraton where they make their way toward the Kaanapali Beach Golf Course. Along the golf course they follow the footpath up and around toward the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The loop continues around Kaanapali Golf Course and ends up on Kaanapali Parkway next to the entrance of The Whaler. From here, Gail and Stan like to head toward the south side of Kaanapali Beach, taking them toward the Hyatt Regency Maui. At the Hyatt they continue around the hotel, where they merge back with the foot path along Kaanapali Beach. The last leg of the loop along the beach path takes them back to The Whaler where they started.

This brief description is only a suggestion, with a dozen of options to choose from. If you are on-line you can see a map of the route Gail and Stan take around Kaanapali Beach Kaanapali Beach
